Foundry-Wide Update!

Tons of New Features and Licensing Changes

New Features & Improvements:

New Licensing:

Comicraft’s font library recently topped 300 font families, making it one of the largest in the industry—and that’s thanks to support from you, our loyal customers!

We’ve updated every font with support for at least 214 languages, and added tons of new features and other improvements.

We’ve also updated our licensing plans to keep current with industry standards. Most of our customers will see no change to the price of a basic license, and everyone now has the benefit of webfonts as well.

Here are the details…

New Features & Improvements

Language support

Each of our fonts now contains an international character set that supports 214 languages:

All of our Word Balloon fonts (and a good chunk of the rest) include these additional characters to bring support up 221 languages:

Improved Rendering

Many customers have noted that certain apps (such as Microsoft Word and Clip Studio Paint) were cutting off the tops and bottoms of tall letters and accents.

We've solved this issue library-wide, without changing the size, or otherwise affecting how they display in more advanced type-rendering apps like Illustrator and Photoshop:

Weight Naming

Whereas our fun, eccentrically named font weights like Shadows, Explode, Crunch & Flip, used to require us to name each weight as a separate family for cross-platform compatibility, now all the weights of a font are conveniently grouped together in your font menus:

They also remain compatible with apps that only recognize standard weights like Regular, Italic, Bold & Bold Italic (that’s you again, Microsoft Word).

One drawback: Old files you open may ask you to relink to "missing" fonts. Many apps have a built-in feature to easily take care of this document-wide, or you can simply keep both versions installed while you make the switch. Each affected font includes a ReadMe file with detailed instructions.

Opentype features & letter spacing

Every Balloon and Character Voice font now includes our Oft-Imitated-But-Never-Duplicated Crossbar I Technology™, to put that pesky character in exactly the right spots:

Many Display and Sound Effect fonts also now include Crossbar I as a stylistic alternate (complete with international accents), as well as other alternate letter shapes for more creative possibilities:

If you build apps or games, keep an eye out for fonts with Tabular (aka monospaced) numbers, which are ideal for non-jumpy score rendering:

Nearly all of our fonts feature improvements to the overall letter spacing, dozens of additional kerning pairs, and kerning on accented letters such as TÅT, TÓT, etc.:

Updates Available Now!

All of the above improvements and upgrades are available to you right now, at no additional cost! Simply log into your account, navigate to Order History, and follow the links to download the fonts from each order.

Please note that by downloading and installing the upgrades, you will be agreeing to the updated licensing plans and terms below. If you don't agree to the new terms, you may continue to use fonts you have under the license you purchased.

Our website contains all orders placed since 2011. If you want to upgrade a font purchased prior to that, or need replacements for lost fonts since then, we will send replacements one time no charge with order receipt, or 20% of the original purchase price without. See our FAQ for details.

New Licensing Plans

After 15 years of unchanging rates, we are keeping our base family prices the same, but updating the price per user to be more consistent with rates offered throughout the type industry, including by our distributors Myfonts, Type Network and Fontspring.

We now offer these five tiers:

  • Up to 2 users = 1x price
  • Up to 5 users = 2x price
  • Up to 10 users = 3x price
  • Up to 25 users = 4x price
  • Up to 50 users = 6x price

Note that our basic license now allows up to 2 users instead of 5. Based on the responses to our survey a few months back, we expect this change will not affect the majority of ComicBookFonts.com customers, who purchase a single license for only 1 or 2 users. If you have licenses for multiple users, here's a conversion chart to the new plans.

As an added bonus, all fonts now include…

Webfonts!

Webfont (.woff2) files are now included with every font, and all license tiers include use on a website with up to 10k pageviews/month at no additional cost. If you've never put fonts in a website before, here's a helpful guide.

Licensing for additional website visitors and app & game embedding is available on our site, or through our distributors MyFonts, Fontspring & Type Network.

We recommend Type Network for licensing for larger quantities, server installation or any other custom licensing needs.

We hope you find all of these improvements and updates as exciting as we do, and we welcome your feedback as we work through making changes to our website in preparation for our annual Comic-Con sale from July 24-31!

We appreciate all of your support in the past, and hope to continue to earn your business and meet your creative needs for many years to come.
